Integrating Behavioral Health Interventions to Improve HIV/AIDS Care

Integrating Behavioral Health Interventions to Improve HIV/AIDS CareThe Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) is a leader in HIV treatment and care in the United States. RWHAP provides a comprehensive system of HIV primary care, medications, and essential support services and serves more than half a million people living with HIV infection (PLWH), filling gaps and addressing structural deficiencies that create disparities in access to and retention in HIV care. Viral load levels are not the sole metric of a PLWH’s health: Adhering to the antiretroviral treatment (ART) that suppresses HIV and maintaining a healthy lifestyle both are critical to managing the disease. Behavioral health conditions, such as mental health and substance use disorders, can impede these HIV treatment strategies. This video highlights the heart of RWHAP’s integrated care system: behavioral health services addressing mental health and substance use disorders. This video also showcases the importance of integrated health care in improving health outcomes and quality of life and reducing health disparities among PLWH.
