Follow That Cell Prize Winners
Follow That Cell Prize WinnersPrize winners in the first phase of the NIH’s "Follow That Cell" Challenge discuss their proposals in this web chat, hosted by Andrea Beckel-Mitchener, Ph.D., program coordinator for the NIH Single Cell Analysis Program. "Follow that Cell" challenged solvers to propose ways to analyze the dynamic state of a single cell and examine its function over time. Breakthroughs may ultimately allow researchers and doctors to identify infected cells or cells that are resistant to certain drugs or cells that may become cancerous. Awarding prizes may spur creativity and tap into different talent pools than more traditional grant and contract funding mechanisms.
Discussing their winning innovative solutions in the first phase of the competition are:
Paul Blainey, Ph.D. (team lead), MIT and Broad Institute, Cambridge, Massachusetts;
James Ankrum, Ph.D., University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa;
Brian Chen, Ph.D., McGill University, Montréal, Québec;
James Eberwine, Ph.D., (team lead), University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;
Nader Pourmand, Ph.D., University of California Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, California.
The Single Cell Analysis Program is a project of the NIH Common Fund.
